    Customised design templates (2003)

I have a company template and templates downloaded from the internet but they do not show in the Design task pane.

If I select File, New, Templates On My Computer they are displayed on the general tab. The Microsoft designs, which do show in the Design task pane, are displayed on the Design Templates tab.

When I create the template, I selected Design Template as the file type and saved it in the default templates folder

    Re: Customised design templates (2003)

I looked at saving a template into the Presentation Design folder and 1033 folders located in C/Program files/MIcrosoft Office/Templates where the Templates and Presentation designs are stored, and when I opened the New dialog box the templates I added did not appear.

PowerPoint has to be closed and reopened for new templates to appear in the Design Templates task pane, and they will be in alphabetical order by name.

As an alternative you can create a custom tab in the new dialog box and put your custom templates in the new tab.
If you select File Save As and select Design Template.pot as the file type you will be in the Templates folder.
If you click the Create New Folder toolbar button in the Save As dialog box and name the folder you will then be in that new folder.
Save the template in this new folder.
When you go to create a new file using General Templates you will have a new tab in the New dialog box where you can store your templates all together.

    HI,

In your slide design task pane there is a section at the top for recently used where your new templates should appear until you fill that section with newer applied templates, then the Available for Use section should be in alphabetical order Left to Right Top to bottom.

Click the Browse button just below the listed templates at the bottom of the task pane and look in the Presentation Designs folder and see if the templates are listed in Alphabetical order.

I am familiar with all of the Microsoft desktop applications, and am a Microsoft Office certified Master Instructor. I don't do a lot of teaching anymore as my primary job is database development projects, but I try to keep all of my application skills up.

I understand the sectioning off of the recently used templates. My available for use in the lower pane are not in alphabetical order left to right or top to bottom. I

    Alice,
Just not sure why they would appear in a different order. At least you are seeing the new templates you are creating. You could use the Browse to apply templates if it is easier for you to find them in the dialog box.

    Re: Customised design templates (2003)

Thanks for your explanation. I was going to ask a question of the Forum about alphabetizing my Slide Designs. I recently downloaded a lot of older PowerPoint designs and they were installed at the beginning of my Slide Designs.

After reading your answer, I assume they will all be listed in color order in 2003. Just another little annoyance that Woody's Forum has cleared up for me!

I was feeling very guilty coming in and posting that additional information after so very long, but I thought someone might find it useful so I went ahead with it. I'm very happy to learn that it was helpful to you and Alice (and hopefully others)!

It was absolutly helpful. I have looked at this a number of times since the original posted and as a solution or explanation was not found at that time. Any idea what the color order is?

Any idea what the color order is?

You know, that's a really good question!

When I look at my task pane, I see blues, then greens and greys, then reds and browns, then a couple of templates with black backgrounds but reddish color schemes, then mostly whites (with one light yellow in the mix).

In my blues section at the top, I have a couple of black backgrounds with bluish color schemes.

Then at the end after the whites, I have all kinds of stuff! ?? <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

Oooooh, I know what those are now! They're actually listed alphabetically. They're the old PPT 2000 templates! (I have both PPT 2003 and 2000 on this machine.)

So it looks as if the PPT 2003 templates are listed in color order (roughly dark to light) and then the older templates are listed alphabetically. How bizarre!
