    Auto Numbering (Access 2000)

    Hi

    Is it possible to change the starting number on the Auto numbering, as I want to start at a numer of say 12345 and count from there - to tie in with an exisiting purchase order system we have

    Create an append query that adds one record, and specify 12344 as value for the AutoNumber field. The next record added by the user will have 12345. You can then remove the one with value 12344.

    In addition to Hans solution you cannot expect the aotonumber to guarantee you a consecutive number in the future that Purchase Orders normally require.

    To emphasize what John indicated, Autonumbers will in general not be sequential as most organizations require of things like purchase orders. The problem stems from the fact that people occasionally decide to add a record, then change their mind, and the way Access works, that number has been used. If you can stand numbers missing in the sequence, fine. Otherwise you need to create your own PO number.
