if formula (2003)

    Hello All,
I'm creating a workbook that is linked to another workbook. I want a formula that says if cell A1 in workbook "x" contains anything, then pull that information, else leave blank...This is probably a simple formula, but I don't know it
    What I had is: =if('[macro step 1.xls]nytp'!$A1=true, '[macro step 1.xls]nytp'!$a1, "")
and even though the cell contained the title to the column, this formula returned a blank...... I have a feeling that the "true" is probably the issue, but I don't know what to put. Thank you in advance for any and all help!

    Try:

=if('[macro step 1.xls]nytp'!$A1<>"", '[macro step 1.xls]nytp'!$A1, "")
