    default folder locations (97-->)

    C:Program FilesMicrosoft Office

    can anybody tell me the default folder locations for winword.exe for:

    1) Word 97
    2) Word 2000
    3) Word XP
    4) Word 2003

    and is it affected by the OS? If so would it be different for:

    5) Windows 98
    6) Windows 2000
    7) Windows XP

    Thanks in advance, this is required for an application I am creating.

    It's not OS-dependent.

    For Office 97 and Office 2000: C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice
    For Office XP: C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice10
    For Office 2003: C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice11

    And check out How to Determine the Path for an Office Application.

    Thanks Hans, perfect.

    I thought the operating system would have no affect, but I checked just in case <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16>

    Re: default folder locations (97-->)

    As far as I know there's no hard-coded "default" location. The user can change the installation drive and path during setup, and "Program Files" isn't always called like that on all Windows language versions. In my applications I look in the registry to get the answers.

    The Office installation path is the "Path" value under:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftOffice10.0Commo nInstallRoot
    (replace 10.0 with the version you're looking for)

    The current path of each application is stored here:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionApp Paths
    Look for the "Path" value of the appropriate key, e.g.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionApp PathsWinword.exe
