Odd one out?

Which is the odd one out of these 4 civilisations?

Egyptians
Babylonians
Romans
Mayans

If you ask for a hint I will say nothing for the time being!

Based on that, it would have to be the Mayans, since they were the only of the four to have used the number zero in the notation of numbers. In the "old world" civilisations, some kind of notation for 'nothing' was used, but the use of zero as a number arose in India around the 7th century, and it reached Europe via Islamic countries much later.

Lyra

I got the idea from a book I am reading at the moment and as you list books as one of your interest I thought I give you the details ( no link as I know you can't access it from work)

The Book of Nothing-Vacuums, Voids, and the Latest Ideas about the Origins of the Universe
Written by John Barrow
Category: Science - Physics; Mathematics - Number Theory
Publisher: Vintage
Format: Trade Paperback, 384 pages
Pub Date: August 2002

I don't know what your general reading tastes are but it is rather heavy going when it comes to the philosophical and theological chapters but the science and history aspects are pretty good the Jezzarettes told me I was a nerd, but I am a happy nerd

I'll give that a try. My reading tastes are pretty much anything & everything (can't be doing with Mills and Boon though!). I even read cereal boxes at the breakfast table...
