Unread Messages in Outlook Shortcuts (Outlook 2002)

    Hi List,

I have a couple of shortcuts in my Outlook Shortcuts bar which are showing that there are unread messages in those areas.

However, if I look in those areas there are no unread messages, and even if I select all the messages and mark them as unread, the shortcuts still tell me I have unread messages.

Does anyone know why this is, and if I can fix it?

    Thanks,

Have you checked ALL of the SUB folders of these marked folders?

Yes, I've checked all Sub Folders, and they are all empty too. It's a mystery!

No, you will need to scroll down the list, of each sub folder. The sub folder may NOT be marked that they have a unread message.

That is the ONLY good thing about the "Unread" folder listed in Outlook 2003.

    Yes, I did that.

I opened every sub folder in the affected folders and none of the contents were marked as unread. I then selected all of the contents in the sub-folders, right-clicked and manually marked them as unread anyway, just to be extra certain.

Still, I have 1 unread message in one shortcut, and 9 unread messages in another shortcut.

    Zara

We have had this problem with a specific email account showing "ghost" unread messages. We share this account amongst 5 people. It is a sporadic problem that comes and goes. We sent the problem to the Server team and they came back with a complete 0. I have trawled through Google and other discussion boards and nobody has come up with the reason. Aspects that were discussed were

    1) Preview Panes
    2) Do you actually read your messages or just right hand click and say "mark as read" ( You don't have to admit that one publicly <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>)
    3) Is it a "shared" account and are people doing no.2) above?

Not solutions just pointers for you to investigate.
