    Automatic updates (XP SP2)

I installed a recent update from Auto Updates successfully for Agere systems modems. Then the notification disappeared from the taskbar as it should.
Then the Update notification again appeared in my taskbar. Each time I click it to install the update it informs me that it is trying to update the same one (Agere Systems) ) which I previously installed successfully. Then it informs me that the installation was unsuccessful. Then the notification appears again and again etc. in the taskbar. I checked the device manager and the update is there. So how do I get Auto update to stop popping up in my taskbar?

    Re: Automatic updates (XP SP2)

I have found the solution to the repeated update icon. I clicked the notification icon in the taskbar, selected custom install then unchecked the update and asked that I not be informed of this update again.
It seems to have worked. No more update icon appearing in the taskbar.
Hope I didn't cause anyone any undue work.
    Cheers,
    Jack

You will find that MOST people will not use any updates for HARDWARE from Microsoft.

Go to the website of the OEM of the hardware to get any hardware updates, as they will may have NEWER updates that MS does.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
