    rename a file (Windows XP)

    When i want to rename a file with mdb ending, for access to say 28May, i get a message that the file will be deleted.Obviously i must remove somewhere
    the necessicity to have a file ending with mdb.Where is this option?

    Do you really get a warning that the file will be deleted? I would expect a warning that the file may become unusable by changing the extension. Anyway, you shouldn't name the file 28May, but 28May.mdb instead. Windows relies on the extensions such as .doc, .xls and .mdb to decide which application should be used to open a file.

    Do you only see this with mdb files? And on all files of that type?

    Maybe check in Explorer Tools.. Folder Options... File Types and look at the assocations for Access files. Maybe something strange in there?
