This user is no longer in our database

So there I am, minding my own business (for a change), SEARCHing the Lounge for snippets of code related to PPT functions, and I come across a lovely <post#=62785>post 62785</post#> from Dave Hill and since it was a long time ago I thought to see who he was, but he is no longer on the database.

How does one get dropped/purged from the database? It can't be just "logging out", since many of us do that from time to time. Is it a "period of inactivity"?

    Chris,

I think I read someplace that a year's worth of complete inactivity may be the reason the user name is dropped from the list? So the moral of the story, log in every now and again and see what's happening!

Loungers used to get purged after a period of inactivity - e.g. 3 months or 6 months, but I don't think this has been done for a few years.
At the bottom of the main Index page, you can see the difference between the number of Registered Loungers and Active Loungers. The difference represents those who have registered and never made a post, and I believe Eileen used to periodically clear these 'non-loungers' off the system. It is possible he was purged during some past house-keeping operation, or his details were lost during the last server crash.

That's how I got to be a regular in the Lounge. I visited once when I first registered and posted a question. Got my answer (of course) and went on my merry way, never glancing back. A few months later I got a message from Eileen informing me that if I didn't log in that my records would be purged and I would have to reregister when I returned. Recalling my first experience with the Lounge, I thanked Eileen for the heads up, promptly logged on and haven't left since.

Right! I'm "lounging" at the rate of 2.295798423 posts per day since registration, but who's counting, right? (Although by the time you read this I'll have shot to the dizzying heights of 2.29644565, which works out to 1.148222541 posts per finger per day, in digital terms)

So you only have 2 fingers !!! You're quite a prolific poster for one using the pick-and-peck method of typing.

    > So you pnly have 2 fingers

Boy! If I had a pfenning for every ty[po I've made, I's be a ricj mab!

I am, indeed, a fast two-fingered typist. Over 15 years ago I started receiving comments from programmers that they had to believe, but still couldn't believe, that it was just two fingers. Of course, they see my hands flying over the keyboard and assume that I'm one of those really graceful people who can just stare at the speaker and keyboard every comment without looking at the keyboard.

My only real problem is that, by now, most everything is hard-wired in my brain, and I can NOT type serach or speradsheet properly at all. "Greaves" is quite easy, so I consider myself very, very fortunate indeed that I was born into that family. "Smith" would pose a real problem to me ........

.... and now you know why I'm mad-keen on getting the spell-checker to quit reporting words that are in fact correctly typed.
