cannot save html file (ms explorer)

    Hi,

who can help me out of this problem?
Sometimes when I want to save a html file ( mainly from job offer interim agencies) I cannot save the actual html file with the save as function.
It says so when trying to do so. But Somehow I manage sometime to get it right only I cannot see how. it is not with all websites but the problem limits to a few.
    Who can help me out.?

    Much obliged,
    jan

Can you see a pattern to the problem? Some page extensions give IE problems. Of course, a page with the HTM or HTML extension should always be able to be saved, but some script-generated pages (.pl, .asp, .php, etc.) might not let you save. Secure pages (https://) and pages that are not allowed to be cached also could be a problem in some cases.

One possible workaround is to use View>Source, which opens the page in Notepad and then you might be able to save it (make sure to save it outside of the Temporary Internet Files folder or it may be erased/inaccessible later). Sometimes View>Source gives you a frameset document that doesn't actually contain the content of the page, just the instructions to load two or more pages into separate frames. This gets to be more of a hassle...

Re: cannot save html file (ms explorer)

    Hello Jeff,
Thanks for the reply. In general they are all html or htm pages so there should not be a problem but sometimes I get an extra indication it won't work out as desiered. Often the coding of the page gets involved iso western european - windows / western european - iso / utf etc..
I have a suspicicion it has much to do with this, but I cannot figure it out until now. For the moment i cannot give you an example page but maybe you know already sufficiant to clear it up.

    regards,

    Jan

Oh, there sometimes is a little warning. I don't know what IE is thinking or seeing when it gives that warning. But I agree, the saved page often works fine. Sorry, I mostly use Firefox now, so I never see that warning any more. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
