Literally Gridlocked

Below is a puzzle I've been working on for a while but with no success. I confess that I am really stumped and I appear to have developed a mindset which is taking me around in circles. I offer it to those loungers far cleverer than I am.

Bob

Have you actually done this one? It is obviously a back breaker as Hans is normally pretty good with these isometric puzzles and he hasn't responded!!!

I have googled for this puzzle and note that there are no answers to them either. Got any Hints?

I'm looking at it from time to time, but I haven't got the faintest idea.

Hi Jezza,

Ive been looking at this one for a couple of weeks now and its solution has so far evaded me so I am unable to offer any hints. Perhaps the blue square fills are a red herring.. I'll continue to work on it.

Re: Literally Gridlocked

my partner came up with a2, b1, b3, c2 - but I don't know what that's about.
He too is not sure about the blue/red squares/herrings.

Hi Kerry

Thanks for the attempt. Since I haven't solved it myself (yet), I don't know whether he's right or not. Can you get him to explain his answer?

Rob

This one has been sitting on my coffee table now for over a week. Do you think that Hans/Me/You and Rudi (if he is still interested) could do a collaboration on this puzzle just to see if we can crack it.

I will put together some of the ideas I have tried/thought tonight and post it as an attachment tomorrow.

Jezza,

This one's a real brainacher. I'd be delighted to hear your views and to pass on what little I can muster.

Re: Literally Gridlocked

Rudi/Rob and others if you want to join in

I am about 14 hours early to our morning collaboration but I have been working on this, this evening. To make our discussions easier I have created a puzzle map which will allow us to describe our thinking. As you can see I have lettered the grids A-I. I shall put together some thoughts that I have gone through:

1) The sequence does not go from A - I in sequence.
2) I tried grouping the grids ABF, BCG,CDH,DEI thinking that the latter lettered grid in the cluster was the result of the former 2 ( Basically triangles) if I could find a rule governing these I could get GH?). Not promising but I am looking at it.
3) The more I look at this I feel the coloured squares ARE the key to this puzzle as A=B, C=I but I am stuck on this also as it is a recent thought)
4) Also note that if you draw a line directly through the middle of C downwards past G and H and through ? there is a line of symmetry for C, G, H and so could ? have symmetry...we will see.

My next plan of attack is to see if I can put the coloured squares (ignoring the X's for the time being) in an order and see what develops with the X's.

As this is an on-line collaboration, the first I have seen in the Puzzle board since I started I feel we should agree on keeping this diagram as our basis for discussion until things develop to save confusion and cross threading. Let me hear your views and let the fun begin.
Jerry
