Adware bomb

I needed a quick audio recorder (late) last night and came across 'Free Audio Recorder' at some freeware site. I downloaded it, scanned it, and clicked to install (pulled the trigger). Everything went off at once - Microsoft Antispyware, Spyblocker, AVG Antivirus. A ton of adware plus the Trojandropper.win32.small.gt virus were packaged with this little bomb.
I cleaned up as best I could with Adaware, etc, but still can't access the internet. Also, Spybot reports that something is blocking port 80. I've tried restoring to four different savepoints, but apparently that's been locked out too. My system is at a crawl.
If I could at least repair my internet connection, I might be able to deal with the rest. Any ideas what this thing could have done to me?
I'm running XP Home SP1 on a 2.6Gb with 512M.

While working on this, you may well need to completely disconnect, physically unplug from the Internet and your home network. Otherwise, you might never get your CPU back.

Thanks for the info. I think that AVG may have already gotten rid of the Trojandropper. The problem could be the large amount of nasty stuff it dropped already. If I can get the web back, I can at least work on this at home. As it is, a few minutes here and there at work is the best I've got to research this right now.
No network at home, but I WILL disconnect the cable.

I'd get a copy of HijackThis, run it and then post a log file on Tom Coyote's forum and wait patiently for his folks to analize your log and help you solve your problem. Read and follow all their instructions as it will help them to help you. It looks like some of this stuff has dug in deep and needs a professional touch to ferret it out. HTH.

Re: Adware bomb

I may be in pretty good shape. I went to the Kaspersky site at http://www.kaspersky.com/remoteviruschk and scanned the original file online. This indicated a lot of WebHancer junk. Webhancer.com offers a little fix program that turned out to be worthless. However, I did get hold of a file called WinsockxpFix.exe from http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm . That did wonders. Got me back on line and port 80 freed up. Another Adaware scan found more trash and finally an MS Antivirus scan showed nothing.
I have had someone look at a Hijackthis log and it seems to be clear. My Google Desktop Search still indicates a network problem - I'm hoping that a reinstall will fix things. Also, the internet still kind of seems a little flakey. But that may also be the ISP. Fingers crossed.
In any case, thanks for your help. I'm going to check out Coyote's forum now. Not that this will ever happen again......
