    Hidden Rows (Excel 2k)

I have a spread sheet that takes 10 pages to print. I have a macro that I have created that hides rows within the 10 pages under certain conditions. I expected that when I hid these rows that the number of pages in the printed document would be reduced ( assuming I have hidden enough of them) but no matter how many I hide I still get 10 pages with lots and lots of white space. I am trying to save paper and not succeeding. Do I have the wrong expectation of hiding rows?

Hiding rows should reduce the area that prints.

Do you have contents in cells well below (or well to the right) of your region you want to print?

Do you have print area larger than what you expect to print?

The document is a checklist that I need my consultants to go through when they are meeting with a client. The first page is the client info ( name adress etc.) The last page is a disclaimer. The stuff I want to hide is in the middle section depending on whether the subsections are relavent to the client.

I just had a thought. I have used check boxes in the spreadsheet. even if they are hidden do they require "white space" to print?

    Check boxes should hide also...

Could you attach an example file (with any proprietary info removed) that we can look at to help troubleshoot the problem?

While I was creating a sample I could post, the problem disappeared. So it would seem I have some data that I have to clear. Thank you for confirming that the Hidden Row worked as I had expected.

    Re: Hidden Rows (Excel 2k)

Using End- Home will show what excel thinks is the "Last cell". Barring any other instructions, this will be included in the range that will usually print.

If you delete the rows from this "real end" past the "end-home" row and delete the columns from "real end" past the "end home" column and then save and close the workbook, the next time you reopen it, it should be reset to the "real end" and your problem should go away...

It turns out that the user had hard coded page breaks in the document and this was causing the pages to print regardless. Because I was rebuilding the document to post it the pagination was removed and everything began to function as expected.

Yes, computer programs are "stupid" that way. If there are hard page breaks entered manually, excel will break at those spots, assuming they were entered for a reason <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

I am glad you got it worked it.

    You should have used the "Do What I Mean" command. <img src=/S/duck.gif border=0 alt=duck width=23 height=23>
