    Ambiguous name (Word 2002)

    Greetings,
While trying to insert a pre-created word document inside a custom database I get the following error:
    Microsoft Visual Basic
    Ambiguous name detected: TmpDDE

I looked it up on the internet to find out the following solution:
    1. Open Word
    2. Select Tools>Macro>Macros
    3. Browse through the list of macros and delete and .TmpDDE macros
    4. Close and then reopen Word

I followed the above but didn

See if you can find the macro in the Visual Basic Editor (press Alt+F11 to start it). Expand each of the documents in the Project Explorer (the treeview on the left hand side), then expand Modules, and double click each module you see.

    Re: Ambiguous name (Word 2002)

    Hans,
When I expand modules, I saw the following:

    New Macros
    WordTmpDDEMod1
    :
    :
    WordTmpDDEMod4
and I double click each of these and I got the following:

    Private Sub TmpDDE()
    WordBasic.Call "V2RespondMacroLibrary"
    End Sub

    Thanks,
    DD

OK, you can delete them without harm. Select each of these modules in turn, then select File | Delete <name>. Reply No to the question if you want to export the module. When you have deleted all these modules, the problem should be gone. <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16>

In the first post in this thread, you wrote that you are inserting a document in a database.
    1) What kind of database?
    2) How are you inserting the document?
    3) Does the document contain Visual Basic code (apart from these TmpDDE macros)?

    Re: Ambiguous name (Word 2002)

    Hans,

Respond is the name of the database, it is a custom, server based (Sql server) database and the document is inserted as follows:
    1. I Create the document (letter) using word
    2. I Go to Tools and select "Registered with Document with Respond" option
    3. Once in the database and I want to send the client a letter, I will click a button labeled "Insert Document" on the tool bar and I'll insert the pre-created letter. The document doesn't contain any Visual Basic code.

    Thanks,
    DD

Apparently, Respond has installed an add-in in Word, and something goes wrong with the code in this add-in. Can you get support from the manufacturer or reseller?

Can you view the code of the add-in in Word?

    PS Is you first name Hans too? <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Re: Ambiguous name (Word 2002)

Select Tools | Templates and Add-Ins...
Note which items in the list are currently loaded (check box ticked). Hopefully you recognize which one belongs to Respond.
    Close the dialog.
Use File | Open... to open the file.
You may now be able to view the code in the Visual Basic Editor, if the developer hasn't protected the code with a password.

    Re: Ambiguous name (Word 2002)

Is there a chance that you can guess the password? In the movies, it usually takes only two or three tries... <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Otherwise, there's nothing more we can do then. Sorry.

Added later: it's strange that the add-in is listed twice in the project explorer in your screenshot of the VB Editor, it should be listed only once. This might well be related to your problem. Perhaps you should uninstall then reinstall the add-in (in Tools | Templates and Add-Ins...)

    Re: Ambiguous name (Word 2002)

    > Private Sub TmpDDE()
    > WordBasic.Call "V2RespondMacroLibrary"
    > End Sub

We have a legacy application that controls/manipulates Word documents through DDE commands. Every time a command to create, re-open or close a Word document is issued, a temporary module is created in Normal.dot, containing a Sub called TmpDDE and within that sub there's always 1 line of WordBasic code for the required action. Normally, after the execution of this code the temporary module is deleted. This flags Normal.dot as "dirty" and therefore it will be saved when Word closes. But every once in a while, when Word didn't close normally, this module is not deleted which sometimes causes errors. The remedie is very simpel: open Normal.dot and delete the temporary module, as you described.
In our case, this only involves Normal.dot and there is no add-in. But the similarity struck me, so I thought I bring it up, because you never know if it can be helpful.
