unread notification in folder shortcuts (Outlook 2003)

I have shortcuts on my shortcut bar for Inbox, Sent, and certain folders. I get the unread "(2)" notification for Inbox and Sent, but how do I turn that feature on for my shortcuts to folders?

Do you mean on your "quick launch" ? Hmm. Don't think I knew that you could even do this.

It might not be possible. That picture is just a static bitmap, It's not really "active" or listening in any way that I can think of.

Maybe someone with more knowledge on this will have some ideas for you.

Mine have the unread count added automatically when I add them using the Add New Shortcut link. I don't know whether those counts will be kept up to date; I don't use this list at all, was just testing it for the first time.

We have SP1 installed, if that makes any difference.

Thanks. Turns out to be an Exchange server setting or version disjunct.

Re: unread notification in folder shortcuts (Outlo

Once I figured it out, I was also able to get shortcuts working, I was able to see my message indicator change as mail came in and was removed from the Inbox. Seemed to update pretty quickly.

Just wondering if you found a specific Exchange server stting that controlled this behavior? I am also connected to an Exchange server 2003 and using Outlook 2003. I imagine that if you are connected using "cached mode" you might see a delay in the updating. I only have a cached mode at home (through the vpn) , and I don't really care how that one works <g>
