    Need More Symbols

I have a user who claims they used to have a set of symbols with foreign characters that they used all the time that is now gone. Apparently they have switched computers and lost the symbols. Any idea how I could get these installed for them. It is Word 97 on an NT platform. Thanks.

Availability of symbols, as far as I know, is based on two aspects: Fonts and Unicode.

If the fonts are different between the two machines, then the "symbols" available will also be different.

Regarding the second point (Unicode), Windows 95 does not recognize Unicode, but Windows 98+ does. I have no idea if the NT platform you are on does or not. So, there is a possibility that if the user was using Windows 98+ that some Unicode characters were available which may not (again, I have no knowledge of NT and Unicode) have them available.

    Thanks, Al!

As it turns out, the problem was, as is typical, not as difficult as first appeared. Once a 'letter' font, as opposed to a 'symbol' font, was selected...the Subset option became available.

From this we were able to select Basic Latin which offered the symbols wanted. Thank you for trying. I appreciate the speedy assistance this board seems to offer.
