Google Web Accelerator

I'd be interested in finding out any users' reactions: http://webaccelerator.google.com/

    Re: Google Web Accelerator

Sounds similar to the accelerator AT&T offers with its dial-up service (info here), only free for all users. I wonder how it works over a wireless connection? Hmmm...

Also sounds very similar in concept to a product called On-Speed, about which there was a <!post=lengthy thread,414881>lengthy thread<!/post> last year.

    Re: Google Web Accelerator

Installing it sets off an absolute flurry of windows, from SpywareGuard, Spybot's TeaTimer, Mike Lin's StartupMonitor, and Norton's Firewall, all about Browser Helper Objects, startup programs and registry changes, and programs accessing the internet

There is a performance report saying "how many seconds the accelerator has saved you since installation", and at the top right of your browser there's a similar time.

The privacy apects of this accelerator could put some people off, so look at the information especially what you are agreeing to at installation time.

PS And there's a Latin motto on the Help screen; Tempus rerum imperator

The privacy issue also gave me pause. But then Google already knows a lot about you, depending on which of its services you use.
