    Post Bell & Safe Mode

I can't get into Safe Mode consistently. With my older machine I'd listen for the POST completion bell and a key click would do it. WINDOWS XP, 3.2 Ghz goes fast and I suspect that one better hit the F8 key blind within a 1/10 second interval, or the machine just drops into WINDOWS. Tapping the F8 key works one out of fifteen times or so

I'd like to think there was a setting in BIOS that controls the POST completion sound. Not so?

    Tnx - Andy.

    Andy,
None that I know of, but then again?
I usually just hit F8 a few times right after the initial screen where you can get to the BIOS and it works consistently, at least on my system.

    Today it is called golf!

If you are comfortable modifying boot.ini see A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP. You should be able to add a second entry for a safe mode boot and then get the boot menu each time you start the PC. For a more exhaustive list of MS KB articles see Search The Knowledge Base - boot menu.
