Adding Field populated with part of other Field (2002)

    Hello All:

Is there a way to add a field to a table or query that would be populated with the first 8 digits of an existing field? In Excel this can be done with the "=LEFT(A1,8)" function....is there anything similar in Access?

    Thanks,
    Craig

    Almost the same:
    - Create a query based on the table.
    - Add the fields you want to see.
    - In the first empty column, enter the following in the Field row:

    DisplayName: Left([FieldName],8)

where FieldName is the name of the existing field, and DisplayName is the name you want to give this calculated field.
