    Hyperlinks

    Hi Gurus,

If you create a hyperlink to another file in excel and then
later open the file and save it to another drive, does this
effect the hyperlinks. Do they change at all.

    Thanks Kindky

    Re: Hyperlinks

    I'm using Office 2000 SR-1

Yes it does affect the hyperlink, IF the linked file is MOVED from its location.
If you only save it in another location, then the hyperlink still points to the older file.

If you move the linked file, you'll get an error message 'Cannot open the specified file'
That's because the hyperlink's url is pointing to a file that doesn't exist any longer in that location.

    Hi Khushnood,

Thanks you for that info, but what if you save the file that contains the hyperlink to another location and it still has access to the file and drive the linked file is on?

    Thanks Kindly

    Re: Hyperlinks

If you move the file with the Hyperlink in it it should not affect the linkage.
I was wondering, though, if you have experienced what I have with hyperlinks. When I use them, the file I wanted to open opens for me but the file with the link closes. If you have experienced this, have you found a way to stop this behavior? I have stopped using these links for external files as opposed to WS within a file for that reason.

    Hi Stephen,

Very strange! Sorry I have not experienced it but if I come across something I will let you know.

    Re: Hyperlinks

The file with the hyperlink closes when you click and open the hyperlinked file, because the first file is Saved.

If you want a saved file with hyperlinks to stay open, just enter anything in a cell and then delete it !!!
It won't close when you click on Hyperlinks.

    Ciao
