    Windows Update (XP SP2)

I have Windows Timesaving Techniques for Dummies and have a problem accessing the Administrator Options. When I click on the Windows Update Catalog link, there is an error that you must be logged in as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group. I do not have Windows Update on the Start Menu, is there a way to get that back without reinstalling Windows XP? Another thing I tried was to right click on Windows Update when the link was on my Start Menu and go down to Run as Administrator and I got an error that the service was not running.

Are you running XP Pro or Home Edition?

To have the service running right click My Computer and select Manage. When the Computer Management console starts click the "+" next to Services and Applications. Then click on Services. In the right pane find and double click "Automatic Updates", Set the startup type to "automatic" and then click the 'Start' button and OK. The Automatic Updates services must be running to use Windows Updates.

Automatic Updates is running. When I click on Administrator Options and then Windows Catalog, I get an error that in order to install items from Windows Update you must be logged in as an administrator.

    Thanks.

To have RunAs work the "Secondary Logon" service must be running. Make sure it is NOT disabled.
