Can't print to edge of page (Word 2003)

I created a brochure and have a graphic that covers the entire page (it's set to sit behind the text so it looks like a background). I set my margins as small as Word would let me but when I print I get a white band around the outside of the page. <img src=/S/bummer.gif border=0 alt=bummer width=15 height=15> Isn't there a way to make Word use the entire sheet of paper? Actually, even when I set the margins to 0" and ignore Word's warning message, it still forces a white border. Is this a printer driver problem instead (I've tried multiple printers)?

Another solution I thought of is to tell Word the paper is 1/2" wider and taller than it really is but I haven't tried that yet. Word may complain that the printer size and the paper size don't match. I don't know.

    Any other ideas? <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16>

This is more likely to be a physical design issue with the printer than a software problem. Most printers just aren't capable of printing all the way to the edge of the paper. Have a look at this search on the HP web site for examples of printers that can do this.

Ah, that's the term.... "border-less printing", yes that's what I need. I just now tried making a custom page size, 1/2" bigger than a normal sheet but that still didn't work. I have a nice inkjet photo printer that I haven't tried using yet but I know it has borderless printing. I just know the quality won't be as nice with inkjet so I didn't try it. I'll try some more printers.

Thanks for the info. I may just take the file to Kinko's and get them to print it.

The effect you're describing is known as a "bleed", where an image or background "bleeds" off the edge of the page. This is accomplished by printing on paper that is larger than the desired size, then trimming the paper to the correct size. Kinkos is probably your best bet here.
