Re: XP Pro (Serv Pack 2)

WordPad doesn't have its own file type. It can open and save .txt, .rtf and .doc files, the first "belongs" by default to Notepad, the latter two to Word. So there is no WordPad "template".

    New / Templates

When right clicking on the desktop, I can choose New... and I have a few templates to choose from. For example, I can start a new Excxel sheet, a Word doc or a text document (Notepad). I would like to add the option to start up a WordPad document. Any ideas?

I do have MS TweakUI which allows to tick, untick, delete and create templates, but even using that program, I was unable to create a template for WordPad. Incidently, on my machine WordPad is located in the C:Program FilesWindows NTAccessoriesWordPad.exe

    New / Templates

Okay, that makes sense. It also gave me an idea for a 'workaround'. I prefer WordPad over Notepad when I need something a little simpler and quicker than MSWord. So, I opened an explorer window - clicked on Tools - and Folder Options - File Types - and changed the txt setting so that it opens with WordPad. Now when I choose to open a new txt document, WordPad starts right up. If it has to be one or the other, I'll go with WordPad.

Just hope it doesn't create an unforeseen problem!

Try putting a shortcut to Wordpad on your Quicklaunch Toolbar. It's been working for me since Windows 98.
