    summing by date (Excel 2003)

I'm having a problem summing by month. I want to add the values which are all individually dated and sum them into month subtotals.
See the example spreadsheet attached. I've got loads of these sheets to do, so a formula is needed please.

On the sheet I've done it manually by using SUM but this is very time consuming, what I want is the same totals but done using a function. I hope that makes sense...

I've tried a few things and run into problems and the only way that has half worked so far is by using the IF function but then I can't have enough nested functions.

I've tried searching here but that hasn't thrown up anything that I can see is relevant.

Any and all help is much appreciated, so thanks in advance

See attached version. It uses a SUMPRODUCT formula.

Fantastic, that's brilliant and exactly what I was after.

    A year test,

    =SUMPRODUCT(--(DATE(YEAR($B$4:$B$22),MONTH($B$4:$B$22),1)=B24),$ F$4:$F$22)

    where B24 houses a date i.e. 4/1/2004
