A stats question (Any)

I have got a set of marking Grids produced in Excel by my College and have had to mark recent examinations. I have run through about 20 students not taking note of the scores but then realised that one smart Alec ( one of my students I found later ) got full marks. One problem when I looked up at this score it only stated 90%, aahhah i exclainmed the College have made a mistake.

I wanted to tell my students thier "unofficial" scores and not being a stats kind of person I though I would give them a rough score to get them off my back and weight the scores.

So my question: If the top student got 90% I can weight his score by multiplying his score by 100/90 . What about the people who got say 76%, do I multiply their score by 100/76?

Be gentle, it's Friday afternoon and my head is not made for statistics so laymens language please!!!

What you do to the Top Student, you must do to ALL others.
=90*100/90
and
=76*100/90
etc

Thanks Rudi

I realised too late.

If I did 76*(100/76) the student would have got 100%!!!!

Well I suppose that is one way of guaranteeing all my students pass

It's now Saturday, so all "gentle" clauses have become null and void.
It might be worth checking out information on standard scores and similar, if you want to do this more rigorously (not hard at all in Excel).
