    Hide Fonts? (OfficeXP SR2)

In the font list many of the fonts displayed are system fonts (i.e. Marlett, MS Reference etc.) and therefore not used directly in document production. Is there any way of hiding (not uninstalling) such fonts so that the drop down list is not so cluttered with fonts that can't be used?

You can do this in Control Panel if all the fonts you want to use are TrueType fonts. Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel and open the Fonts icon. (If you are using Windows XP, just go Start - Control Panel.) In the Fonts folder choose the Tools menu then Folder Options. One of the tabs you see is TrueType fonts. Check the box that says Show only TrueType fonts in the programs on my computer. (If you are using category view for Control Panel, you won't see the Fonts icon. In that case, either click the link on the left that says Switch to Classic View, or you can click the link for Appearance and Themes, then the one that appears on the left that says See also Fonts.)

    Does that help?

    Hans and Ian
Thanks very much for that. Showing only TT fonts certainly helps but it would be a nice touch if you could show only the fonts that you regularly need. Perhaps Microsoft might do this in future!!

There is a third party utility (WordToys) that lets you do that.
