I'll second this Joe- I've been using Real Alt for months and thoroughly recommend it. No spyware, no background tasks, no bloat- perfect!

    Madam

In Real Alternative, can you move the time slider forward (or back!) to skip over a few minutes of song (say?). If so, I will probably uninstall RealPlayer and move over to this one...

    Thanks!

I believe so Mister Gray. You certainly can with streaming video & 'local' music (ie a file on the hard drive).

    Re: Real alternative

When listening to (streamed) BBC 7 (old radio comedy) I sometimes want to move past the song, so I move the time slider forwards a couple of minutes. In Real Alternative, which uses Media Player Classic 6.4.8.4, this usually completely stops the sound, although the clock advances in the normal way. Sometimes returning the time slider to zero causes it to restart, but it is rare that you can get it to pick up two minutes after you left off. I can't find much on the badly structured (and bad tempered) SourceForce forum for this MPC problem, unfortunately...

Strange.... maybe it's the format the BBC are using... I'll have a dig around this evening

    John

I'm not sure why it didn't work for you, but I tried the BBC 7 'listen again' feature last night (the Goon Show! ), and it worked perfectly- no freezing at all. Maybe you're missing some codecs?

    Re: Real alternative

    Lyra

My problem is with skipping over songs embedded within comedy programmes (e.g. in Round the Horne). If I move the time slider forward 2 or 3 minutes in Media Player Classic, this usually causes the sound to disappear completely. MPC does not seem to do its buffering again, and pick up on the sound that many minutes later. Sometimes it does, or sometimes you can restart from the beginning and get the sound again, but the whole thing is very flaky. Pausing the sound while you change the time slider doesn't seem to help at all. Of course, if you just let it play from start to finish it works wonderfully well! But I'd like to be able to skip around within the transmission, which is the sole advantage of RealPlayer -- IMVHO...

    Re: Real alternative

Sorry I didn't make myself very clear John- I was skipping forwards & backwards through the transmission without any problems, and it re-buffered perfectly every time. I tried small jumps of less than a minute & large jumps of 90% of the show, both directions and all was well.

    Further investigation needed methinks.

    Re: Real alternative

    Claude

Yes -- this is enabled by default, I noticed on my trawl through the pleasantly few options of Real Alternative! I also set the buffering to 120 seconds, the maximum.

The problem is that moving the time slider works occasionally, but quite often the playback goes completely and it is rare to be able to recover it... I couldn't find anything about this on any Media Player Classic forum...

    Thanks!
