    Network cable unplugged

    Hi
I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to networks.
I've got a Windows XP Home laptop and a Win 2000 Pro desktop, both with 10/100 Ethernet cards. I've bought a 5m crossover cable and plugged it into both.
The XP Network connections reports ''VIA VT6105 Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter - Network cable unplugged'.
The W2K device manager reports the 'VIA VT6102 Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter' - This device cannot start (Code 10).
It's an internal card so I can't see why it cant start.
    Any ideas?
Thanks so much for your help
    Peter

    Re: Network cable unplugged

The problem is the Ethernet adapter, or more likely the device driver, on the W2K system.

Try to find an updated device driver for this VIA VT6102 and see if it helps.

You can find the driver for the VIA VT6102 on DriversGuide.com you will have to create an account (which is free) and search for VT6102. The file is there. I use this site for finding all my drivers. I hope that this helps.
