    Template removal (Office 2002)

I want to remove certain templates from all computers in our company, such as the memos and faxes. I can connect remotely and just delete them, but they are still listed in Word, and automatically install as soon as a user clicks on them. I don't want these templates to be listed after I delete them. Any ideas? Thanks much, in advance.

You'll have to tell Word that you don't want those templates. Interactively, it goes like this:
    - Select Start | Control Panel
    - Open Add/Remove Programs
    - Select Office XP
    - Click Add/Remove Features
    - Expand Microsoft Word
    - Expand Templates and Wizards
    - Click the dropdown arrow for each of the categories you don't want, and select Not available.
    - When you're done, click Update.

In a corporate installation, it may be possible to use a group policy for this, but I can't help you with that.

OK thanks, appreciate it. I was hoping there was a simple way to just delete them remotely, but I guess that would be too easy.

The templates are held in a registry key from which they can be removed easily. You should be able to remove these entries remotely.

The trick is finding the correct area of the registry for the version of Office that you are using. You can find these easily enough on your machines by doing a search of the registry for the displayed name of one of the templates that you want to kill off.

This location (in Word2002 I think) was published once in one of Woody's newsletters which spawned this thread <post#=348635>post 348635</post#> at the time.

On my Word 2003 machine the area of the registry is shown in the attached graphic.

Thanks for the help, I'll try deleting from the registry.
