    Media Player (Windows XP MCE/SP2)

When I activate Media Player by selecting a media file the system goes to full screen and it will not downsize. It locks my system up

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

    See if the following helps:
    - Select Tools | Options...
    - Activate the Performance tab.
    - Click Advanced...
    - Toggle the 'Enable full-screen mode switch' check box.

First, thanks for the response. I tried the suggestion and it did not make any difference. I'm about ready to throw this machine out the window!

That seems a bit drastic. Hang on, someone else will hopefully have a suggestion.

What happens when you open just the WMP without a media file ?? Start>All Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Windows Media Player. Are you able to work with the program without the system freezing ?? Eg. - can your resize the window manually (grab a corner and drag the window to a smaller size) ?? If you can, what happens when you then try to open the same media file that was causing you trouble ??

I can Navigate to the program and open it up. I can also change the size of the window and get to all the options in the menu but when I open any media file the system goes to full screen and none of the normal key strokes, such as the escape key or Ctrl Alt delete, will allow me to get back to the program window. This occurs with any media file I try to open on my hard drive as well as any video clip I try to open on the internet.

OK. I'm guessing that you are using WMP 10 because of the OS and SP2. I'd first try to "roll-back" to a previous version and see if that helps. Take a look here for instructions on how to do this and other WMP troubleshooting tips. I'd suggest removing WMP and reinstalling, but you really can't because it's part of the OS. Do you have another media player that you can try to see if the problem is particular to WMP ?? WinAmp is <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> and will play most media files if you need one to test the system.

I just ran your system particulars through a Google Search (just for grins) and came up with some interesting links and this page with lots of info and links about WMP.
