Drivers

Does anyone know of a good utility for searching & updating drivers? What about sites? I have a utility called WinDriversBackUp, but it doesn't seem like the updated version is free. There is also a site called Drivers Headquarters. Has anyone had experience with them? Thanks.

Since WinDriversBackUp went shareware, I have heard good reports on the ware WinRet. Not as simple, but offers more features.

Phil,
I have used Driver HQ a few times and found it helpful but since it appears that a lot, if not all, input is from users, there is no guarantee that you are getting the right driver or the most current one.
A little careful reading and some luck is required here.
The same for the other site mentioned.

Alan,

Winret is still in Beta at the download site, don't know what version of Beta.
Will give it a shot though.

Re: Drivers

Hi Alan & Bob:
Sorry for taking so long to respond, but lately I've only been checking the WinXP board & trying to get familiar with that. Thanks for the information. I used the old version of Driver Detective 2.0 & also WinDriversBackup. I did registry at Driver's Hq, but will treat it's advice with care. The one driver that I downloaded for my old mouse won't install on WinXP. Seems that I'll have to get more modern.

I looked at WinRet that you mentioned Alan, & they have an alpha & beta version. Their Help page says that driver restore works in Windows 98 & ME, although I could be reading it incorrectly. It may say that it reinstalls drivers only when there is no current driver in Win98 & ME. Oh, well. I think it's more complex than I need.
Thanks again guys,
