    OLK21 Folder (Outlook 2003 SP1)

Unable to see folder OLK21 ??

If you receive an email with an attached word document, when you open the word document it would appear to create the file in the following folder

Cocuments and settingsMy NameLocal settingsTemporary Internet filesOLK21

Why am I unable to see this folder in file explorer even though I've set the flag 'Show hidden files and folders'

    Thanks

The folder is not necessarily named OLK21. See the registry value OutlookSecureTempFolder in HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0Outloo kSecurity. This contains the name of the folder used for downloading attachments. If the registry value is not present, Outlook will create it when needed. The folder name always starts with OLK, but it is followed by a random series of letters and digits. To prevent tampering, the folder is hidden in a more secure way than standard hidden folders, so you won't see it in Windows Explorer. You should be able to see it in a command prompt window, though.

    Thanks Hans,

Yes I can see the file from the command prompt, in fact I've got 46 files in that directory...

Should this directory be cleared out regulary??

    Thanks again

Normally, the OKL* folder will be cleared when you exit Outlook, but that isn't possible when attachments are still open at that time. If that happens, you can delete the items from the command prompt.

See Attachments remain in the Outlook Secure Temporary File folder when you exit Outlook 2003.
