Word 2003 opens only in task bar (2003 sp1)

When I open Word 2003, it will look normal until it finishes opening, at which time it will only be in the taskbar, nothing I try can make it active on the screen.

It might be that Word is opening off-screen. Right-click the taskbar button for Word. If the Maximize option is available, click it.

If that doesn't help, try Phil Rabichow's <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word (97/2000),197827>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word (97/2000)<!/post>.

It does sound like it is opening off screen. You should check that you have not configured your machine for a second monitor which is not connected.

Try right clicking your desktop and choose Properties. Now check under the settings tab to verify that you are configured to be using a second monitor with a setting of 'Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor'. If you have the desktop extended you should turn this off (or connect the second monitor)

If the window is off screen then you may be able to move it back using the system menu.

Alt - Spacebar to display the menu (which will also be off screen)

Down arror to select Move on the menu

Enter to activate the menu item

Now use the cursor arrow keys to move the window back on screen. You can tell which way it has to be moved because the cursor will be at the edge of the screen nearest to the hidden window.[/list]StuartR
