Omnipage and file types (XP)

I've recently installed Omnipage 14 OCR software. Now all kinds of files are being described in File Types in Folder Options as being an 'Omnipage image document' such as BMP, GIF, JPG, and several more, and you get the same description when you look at the 'details' listing in WIndows Explorer under Type. The files are still associated with the right programs, so for example double clicking on a JPG still opens it with Microsoft Office Picture Manager. But I don't recall Omnipage asking me if I wanted to associate these file types with it during installation.

Is there a way I can get Windows to go back to the previous descriptions without changing them one by one by hand in Folder Options - File Types (always assuming I can remember what they all were)?

Several programs seem to think they have an absolute right to change file associations to point to their program when it is installed, but I don't know of an easy way to return them to their former associations.

The "DOS" command ASSOC will list what you have currently (I have 513 in total!) from where they are stored in the registry, but unless you keep notes of what the previous settings were I can see the re-association as being a tedious task...

Perhaps someone knows of a GUI-based program which might assist?

I suppose I could use System Restore to go back to a point before I installed Omnipage, note the descriptions of all the affected file types, then reverse the system restore and change them all by hand. I hoped not to have to do all that!

I couldn't find any information about it, but could this be related to a search or an indexing function of the software ?? Perhaps there's a way to turn off this helpful "feature" if it's the culprit.
