    References missing (2003)

    Hi,
Our office has just upgraded to Access 2003 from Access 2000. In one of the databases the following references seem to be missing.
    Calendar Control 8.0
    Microsoft Windows Common Controls - 2 6. 0
I cannot see anything similar in 2003 that could be used to replace these. At the moment several people are having issues with the database due to these missing references. Is there anything to replace these?

Clear the check boxes for the missing references.

Create a new form in design view. Click More Controls on the Toolbox. Select Calendar Control 11.0 and create a calendar on the form. This should set the correct reference. You can close the form without saving. If the Calendar Control 11.0 is not available, Access 2003 hasn't been installed completely.

The Common Controls are more problematic - you may not have a license to use them. Does the database work without the reference?

Calendar control is missing!!!! Arghh....they tend to do this quite alot. Things are installed centrally in some far off distant office and when you go to use the applications, simple things are missing. So frustrating!
The database does work without both references, but principly I'm against this!! <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23> They are aware that there are issues, they also haven't installed Jet 4.0.

I don't think Access 2003 would work without Jet 4.0. Perhaps they didn't install the latest update. (BTW, you don't set a reference to Jet 4.0, you use ADO or DAO to communicate with the Jet engine)

When you open the database is has the attached error message, which I presume means jet 4.0 isn't installed. My understanding of Jet was that it was a core component of Access that deals with security as well as other things.

Jet is installed - Access doesn't work without it. But, as I mentioned as a possibility in my previous reply, you don't have the most recent service pack for Jet 4.0. In other words, you have an older version of Jet 4.0. Your IT department should take care of that.

As Hans says, the error message tells you that you need Jet 4 Service pack 8 or later. That doesn't mean you don't have Jet 4 installed, because it would not be possible to open Access, and a number of other things, without it. My understanding is that Access 2003 *requires* service pack 8 at the minimum.
