Task Manager changed on me??? (WinXPsp2)

Today my taskmanager tool changed dramatically. When I press Ctrl+Sft+Esc I get a single pane showing only running tasks...can no longer see processes or the performance pane.

I copied taskmgr.exe from another machine, but it acts the same. I can't see anything different in the files on my machine from the other.

Any ideas about settings that would have changed this? or some other file to DL?

    thanks so much,

    Tom O'Connell

Try double clicking the border of the Task Manager. See Task Manager Menu Bar and Tabs Are Not Visible.

Thanks, Hans. That was the problem.

It was frustrating that I was unable to find this in the MSKB on my own...you're a champ

I'd never heard of that "feature," but tried double-clicking a few times just for kicks. "Tiny Footprint mode." And no right-click (or other) menu to help you get back to normal.

Are you saying that you followed Hans' advice and now you can't revert back to "Tiny Footprint Mode" ??

If that's the case, just double click on the border where the tabs are located and you will return to the "Tiny Footprint". HTH

Thanks for the reply. No, I knew how to revert back, but only because I'd looked at the MSKB article Hans pointed me to. (That's also how I knew Redmond calls it "Tiny Footprint" mode.) My point was that this "feature" is certainly a trap for the unwary, since it's not hard to envision someone invoking it by accident, at which point it's not at all clear how you change back (and there's no right-click menu).

You could view it as a kind of "rotten Easter egg" -- or perhaps "kiester egg" would be a more apt term.

I understand your point. It seems to be the MS way to have multiple different ways to accomplish the same task. But only some of them are offered to the general public and the rest are buried in the MSKB that only folks like us know is there and we are least likely of all users to need it and most likely to understand it.
