Extracting Posts for Statistics

Hi,
I am wanting to extract all my posts and copy the referenced info to excel to run stats on how many posts I have posted on the excel forum compared to the other forums, and how many threads I started vs how many I have replied to. When I do a search for my user name, and I specify 500 results to show, the page hangs??
First, is there a limit to how many results can be pulled up, and second, is there a smarter way to go about getting these stats?

TIA
Regards,
Rudi

The maximum number of search results is 99, but in my experience, the search often "hangs" if you specify more than about 75 or so, so best stay below that.

The Lounge only provides simple statistics, available from the Search page (including a Top 25 Posters list). More detailed lists might generate an atmosphere of competition, and would be only a momentary snapshot anyway.

Those big searches are going to make life just a little bit slower for the rest of us.

Added: Sorry, I just checked your location. Maybe in South Africa, right now, it is not nice outside?

Re: Extracting Posts for Statistics

Regarding the reason for my request!
I have been generating reports in Excel for a call center of a certain company that I've been contracted out to for the last month! The reports I developed allow you to feed in the calls that come through the call center...people having hassles/questions in the Office range. Once the calles are entered into the excel sheet, it breaks down the calls into Excel, PPT, Word, Access, Outlook and then the reason/issue involved. Stats are then pulled on what % of calls belong to each group, and the type of issues. This draws up a picture of what type of training requirements the company has to look at, and what applications will need the most training... etc!

I wanted to pull my posts and throw them into this report to see what picture cames from it. Where I lack "expertise" and just for interest, how much more I post than reply to posts. (I enjoy stats and thought it would be interesting to see what it gives me,)

I never intended it to create an atmosphere for competition at all...this is for personal use.

I suppose I could pull 99 at a time, and do it a couple of times to draw my details. Please advise me if you do NOT want me to do this! It is certainly not more important that my visits to the lounge, and I do not want to offend anyone.

Thanx
Regards,
Rudi

... I'll need a hovercraft if I wanna drive to New Jersey.

BTW: The weather is quite great here even though its winter! Its 19 celcius today and quite humid with 60% thundershowers.

Re: Extracting Posts for Statistics

You can play with the search URL. for example, that for your posts in Excel looks like this:

http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/dosearch.p...25&Old=allposts

Searchpage=1 specifies how many times you've clicked the "Next Page" button", so Searchpage=1 actually means you're on the second page. You can change the number manually. For example, change it to 20 to see the 21st search page.

You're free to do searches, but remember what Jefferson said: many large searches will slow down the Lounge, because it's a heavy load for the server. Better keep the number of records returned small, and try to do some smart guessing to find the last page in a minimum number of steps.

Thanks for the advice. I am gonna see what I can make out of it!

PS: I must admit, I didn't realise that my searching large volumes will slow the lounge down. I will keep the searches down to a minimum number in future!

Cheers

I don't think you've anything to worry about. You'd win Hans down in all events! BTW, do they do random tests for performance-enHansing drugs, here in the Lounge?
