    Outlook shutdown issue (2000)

On an XP Pro SP1 Office 2000 SP3 exchange install a user's Outlook often will fail to shutdown end of day and eventually pops up a message stating that OL can not shut down as there is an open dialog box.

We have yet to find such a dialog box and are stumped.

If Word is the mail editor and was first launched from inside Outlook, I wonder whether it might be the "dialog box" that's still open?

What Applications does the Task Manager show? Is the user running any PDA sync software?

No PDA and nothing exotic on this machine.

Tried deactivating the add ins listed for OL2K and the shutdown worked but before we could declare victory the client started having Excel issues so we just started a reimage. I was hoping we'd pin it down for sure but now it will remain an unknown.

Probably a winword process as JScher mentions. Next time, I'll bet you see an extra one. <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16> Internet Exploder, er, IE, can cause this too - it's mail-enabled.

Word is not the editor for mail. In fact, Word is not running when this has occurred.

There is, however, an issue with a contact folder distribution list (not an Exchange global list) that gives a message about "process incomplete" or similar wording. We are going to see if this is related to Outlook hanging up by renaming this list and recreating.
