    Formatting Column Widths (Office 03/win2k)

When adding a title above an excel worksheet and utilizing auto formatting options, the printed worksheet reflects or defaults to the wider column width of the title cell in lieu of the narrower column width immediately below it. I have separately reformatted the title cell and the remainder of the column below it, the printed result is the same.

    You mean like this?
If this is unwanted, you can format the cell to wrap text instead (rightclick, format cells, alignment tab)

Your attachement is an accurate representation, however, utilizing word wrap for the title cell merely compresses the text in a garbled fashion. Isn't there a way to format the width of two cells above and below with differing cell widths?

Further clarification...the problem only appears when applying an autoformat option, such as accounting 1,2 etc, otherwise, I am able to set different cell widths for both cells and it prints out fine. thanks for your insight.

    Just my <img src=/S/2cents.gif border=0 alt=2cents width=15 height=15> worth...

The AutoFormat command works best if you do not select the Sheet Title. They are designed to format the block of cells that include the Column and Row Labels and the relevant data! If you do this the formatting applied by AutoFormat will not distort, and you are able to add your own formatting to the titles! For the Titles, you could apply Merge and Center options, or if you are not keen on merging cells, simply choose Center across Selection in the Alignment Dialog!

    Cheers

    Rudi
