Problems with the My Music Folder (Home 5.1)

    Hi,

Even though I've moved, via TweakUI, the My Music folder to the D: drive (D:My Music), for some reason a blank My Music folder always reppears on my C: drive (C:My Music).

I then delete it, but, again, it always reppears, though the folder is empty.

    Any ideas? Many thanks.

Probably the program your are using to manage your music is creating it. Check the configuration options of the program itself.

I distinctly remember a recent post that had instructions for registry edits to prevent all of these My xxx folders from being re-created if you delete them. I have searched the lounge without success, but maybe someone else will remember and post a pointer.

    I found this information here.

"To stop Windows from creating these subfolders every time, perform the following steps:

From the Start menu, select Run, enter the command regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll to unregister the .dll file, then click OK.

Navigate to My Documents, then delete the automatically created folders that you no longer want to appear.

The steps above disable the My Documents functions, so if your system is missing some functionality, you'll need to reregister mydocs.dll. If you want to reregister the .dll file, perform the above steps again but use the command regsvr32 mydocs.dll"

    Hi Doc:
That's a great find. Out of curiosity, suppose you later want to restore one of the special folders (as a special folder). How would you have Windows recreate the folder at a later time?
    Thanks,

    Hi Phil,

My guess would be that, if you had to reregister the mydocs.dll to restore functionality after you removed the unwanted "special" folders, that you would again have to unregister the .dll file and then add the folder(s) you want back into the My Documents folder and then reregister the mydocs.dll file. If you didn't have to reregister the file then I suppose that you just add back the folders and reregister the .dll file. Registering the .dll file seems to be what makes it "special". But this is all speculative on my part. I don't really know for sure.

    Thanks, Doc. Sounds like a good guess. Maybe I'll experiment. <img src=/S/flee.gif border=0 alt=flee width=25 height=25>

Let me know how you make out. I'm curious myself.

    Just not curious enough to experiment. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
