why always requested to log on to host? (((((FP2002 (10.2623.2625)))) ))

    Hi again, folks.

Something weird has just started happening with my FP and I can't figure out why.

I am hosted by Netfirms at the moment, but will be changing to a paid host as soon as the website I have been working on for some months now is ready (soon). Recently, every time I open up FP I am asked for my user name and password for Netfirms and have to log on before I can open my web to make changes, additions etc. Also, the additions, however small, are taking an age to save.

This never used to happen. I used to be able to make whatever changes I wanted offline, then log into Netfirms at some later time to save the changes to the web online. I want this choice back! What do I have to change? Any advice, please?

The most common way to work in FrontPage is to open your "web" from a local drive and, when it's ready, then "publish" to the server. It sounds as though FP is automatically opening the web from the server rather than from your local drive. As a result, you may have an out-of-date local version. Be careful not to publish it over your live site until you compare the files.

Thanks, jscher2000 - I think you're right in your assessment. But how do I stop FP "automatically opening the web from the server rather than from your local drive" please?

Somethings gone wrong with your recently used web list.
Can you see the local web under the File, Recent Webs list?

    Catharine

Under the File, Recent Webs list there are 2 items listed, as follows:

1 Cocuments and SettingsAdministratorMy DocumentsMy Webs
2 my website address on Netfirms

When I click on 1, nothing happens and the FP screen stays grey. When I click on 2, the username/password request box comes up for my Netfirms site address (as might be expected).

This is getting really annoying. Why do these things just "happen"? AAAARRGGH!

Have now sorted the problem out - don't know how, or what was wrong, but all is back to normal now.

    Cheers
