Special Sum formula needed (Excel 2003)

I am looking for a formula.................e.g. in column C there are letters of the alphabet (a,b,c,d) labels - in column G are totals (values). I need a formula that will take ALL the a's from column C and add ALL the dollar amounts from column g that correspond with the a's. This total will be in one cell.

    Please advise

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

    Try this formula:

=SUMIF(C1:C100,"a",G1:G100)

You can change the ranges to include more or fewer rows.

Just my if you are not aware if the feature! After you sort the labels in the C coloumn, you can active the subtotals feature in the Data menu. This will give you totals for All the labels.
Also, what could be useful is to use DSUM. If you search this forum for examples you will find plenty to go by.

The built-in help for Excel provides some information, and here is a tutorial on the Microsoft website: Microsoft Office Assistance: PivotTable reports 101 (you can expand the steps to see details).
