Re: Format C Drive (XP Pro)

    Hi,

you can do this a number of ways.

    1. Boot the machine from a floppy drive (you may need to go into the BIOS to set the boot options) with a win98 startup disc. From here you can format the whole drive, and partition it if needs be. You will be limited to formatting it with FAT32 though.

    2. Boot the machine from a Windows XP Installation CD, and as part of the setup options you can format the hard drive to either FAT32 or NTFS, NTFS is better if you are going to install windows XP. You can also partition the drive here.

I would go for the second option, especially as you don't have any critical data.
Make sure by going into the BIOS that the boot options start with CDROM, then boot up the PC with the winXP cd in the drive.
The options are fairly straightforward. You can completely format the hard drive and reload windows from there.
    Thanks,

    pmatz

If you do not have a CD with XP SP-2 already integrated you should consider slipstreaming SP-2 into your Windows CD. See Neowin.net > AutoStreamer 1.0.33 for a <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> utility that makes this process very easy. Also, see Paul Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows: Slipstreaming Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) for some screen shots using both Nero and Roxio to burn the updated ISO image to CD. I'd recommend using Autostreamer as it automates the method described in Paul Thurrott's article.
