    Missing Fonts

    Help <img src=/S/grovel.gif border=0 alt=grovel width=31 height=23> please!

    Here's the story... Brand new out of the box PC, with fresh install of Win 98se, then fresh off the CD install of Office 97sr2.

    All is fine in Excel, but when my user goes into Word or PowerPoint we find that almost all the fonts are missing. We see only Times New Roman and one called Plotter! If I type a valid fontname it becomes available and works fine, but then I loose Times New Roman. This is true not just of the list on the formatting toolbar, but also from the Format... Font menu. As I say, all the fonts are installed as I can see them in Windows/Fonts folders, and Excel lists them fine. <img src=/S/dizzy.gif border=0 alt=dizzy width=15 height=15> I am baffled.

    Before you suggest it, I have already done a full uninstall/reinstall of Office with the same result at the end.

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

    With Word closed, assign a default printer driver in Windows. When you open Word,
    File => Print
    Your default printer should show up in the dialog box. If it does, close the dialog box. If it does not, set the printer in the dialog box and close it.

    Check you fonts list, should be OK. Word fonts list is printer-specific and tied in with the printer drivers.

    See (addbalance.com/word/missingfonts.htm) for more. (Except my site is down right now so you may want to try <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/General/NoFonts.htm> No Fonts on the MVP site.

    Charles,

    Many thanks for that. It worked fine once I set-up a printer. Cheers.
