    Bootable live Windows CD

Has anybody tried Bart's Preinstalled Environment (BartPE) bootable live windows CD/DVD?

It is a Windows boot disk that can be used instead of DOS based boot discs for PC maintenance tasks. I have not tried it yet but it appears to be a good alternative to using DOS boot disks for troubleshooting Windows systems, especially those with NTFS volumes.

A Windows XP/2003 installation discs are required to created the boot disc.

No, but it looks worth trying, if you've got the time!

It does take some time to setup, but it does do what he says it will do: Allow you to boot Windows XP as a live CD.

The setup process is not difficult and it does include a LOT of diagnostic tools that may help when booting into Safe mode is not possible.

I created one some time ago, checked that it booted OK and put it in my bag of "CDs that I will appreciate when I need them". I haven't needed to use it in anger - yet.

Thanks everyone, I will create a boot disk when I get some spare time.
