Can't contact router

After many months of running ok I now have a problem.
I have a Belkin wireless router my Desktop computer is connected to the router by wire my laptop is wireless.
Today my desk computer can not connect to the network. The laptop works fine (I am using it just now)
I have noticed when I re boot my desktop computer the LED on the network card lights briefly the go's out.
Has the network card failed?

Re: Can't contact router

This could be a faulty or disconnected cable, or a failure of the desktop network card, or a failure of the port on the router.

Start by taking the network cable out (at both ends) and reseating it, to make sure it is definitely plugged in properly.
Then try moving the router end of the cable to a different connector.
If none of these helps then try a different cable (if you can borrow one from somewhere).
Finally try a different network card on the desktop.

Just a small addition to Stuart's post. Most good quality cards have self testing software which installs as part of the setup. If you have that installed try running it. Generally it will indentify where the problems lies. HTH.

Re: Can't contact router

Thanks everyone, update to my network problem. After many emails to and from Belkin support tests, pinging it was suggested " I may have a problem with my router."
Then I was sent one more email from support
1) power down my wired computer
2) power down my router for 30 seconds
3) switch on router wait until LED's stop flashing
4) switch on my wired computer
Problem solved Great support just wish they said this at the start and saved my and there time
