    TOC numbering Chapts (2002)

I was determined to resolve this myself, but I've now spent more hours than I wanted to.
I want the TOC to start numbering each chapter from 1 to however many pages are in each chapter.
Each chapter starts with a section break. For some odd reason, I have chapter 4 working correctly, but chapters 1-3 are using sequential page numbering as if the chapters weren't separate sections. What am I overlooking in this TOC/Section Break/Numbering mess?

Does this page numbering problem occur only in the Table of Contents, or also in the document itself (assuming you display the page number in the page header or footer)?

It's happening in the footer numbering as well, expect for the last chapter which is fine for some reason.

Select View | Header and Footer and switch to the footer (or double click in the page footer).
    Select Insert | Page Numbers...
    Click Format...
Click the option to Start at 1 (not Continue from previous section).
Click OK to close the Format Page Numbers dialog, then click Close to close the Page Numbers dialog without inserting a new page number (don't click OK here).
Use the buttons in the Header and Footer toolbar to move to the next section and repeat the steps to reset the page number for each section.

    Re: TOC numbering Chapts (2002)

Phew. Even tho I don't have "show number on first page" checked, it's showing page number in the footer of the first page in the section.
Also, the alignment is off (the footer also has some text in it -- and the page number should be after the text). I've also played around with the option "inside" and "outside" and that seems quite odd. I would assume I want "inside" as in "inside the footer" ??? Still not right.

YIKES...I solved it...various combinations of things including being sure "same as previous" is set and not set...what a mess!

Spoke too soon...pages are numbered correctly now in the footers, but the TOC still doesn't handle it properly. Still numbering sequentially rather than picking up the new numbering from the body/footer.

Could you post a copy of the document? You can replace the actual text with dummy text if necessary.

Make a copy, and strip most of it away, leave just one page (with dummy text) per section/chapter. We probably need to see only a few sections.
    Zip the file if necessary.

    Re: TOC numbering Chapts (2002)

Well, from the "Normal View" I found an inserted continous section break which was causing the problem. Quite a chore solving this type of thing.
Thanks for your help again, Hans. It's looking good now.
