Opening Template Causes Computer to Hang

Have been using Word for years - but now, whenever I attempt to open a template other than normal.dot, my computer completely freezes up. Even Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Running Office 2000 on ME with 256MB RAM.

Two quick suggestions:

Check your computer (and Normal.dot particularly) for viruses.

Replace your Normal.dot.

This may not fix it, but are first steps to try.
