    Adding Times (Office 2000)

    Obvious Excel Newbie.

I want to add hours & minutes to produce total hours & minutes

    18 hrs. 36 min. + 112 hrs. 38 min. = 130 hrs. 74 min. = 131 hours 14 min.

    18:36 + 112:38 = 131:14

Obviously the secret is in the formatting of the cells. I've tried various combinations and came up with some pretty weird, useless stuff. I've gone through the Forum and I can't find anyone that is as simple as I. With respect to the problem, that is.

Thanks in advance for any help,
    Cheers,
    Andy

    Hi Andy,

Set the number format for the cells to the custom format [h]:mm
The square brackets tell Excel that the time is to be displayed as accumulated time instead of clock time (1 .. 23).

    Hans,
Bless your little spreadsheet heart! There but for the grace of a bracket, goes my correct calculation.
Thanks again, I'll try and stay out of this Forum as much as I can. I cause you enough grief in Access,
    Cheers,
    Andy

i believe you have already commented in your un-comment. I believe also that I am still a "pal" and shall take it in the humblest of fashion! <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Rudi,

If you really want to see a multitude of questions from one person with unstinting answers from Hans, you should check out the volume of stuff I've put through in the Access Forum. The man is Outstanding! If he ever wanted to travel around the world at almost no expense, I bet there are enough of us in his debt to help with the boarding and feeding and sightseeing.
    Cheers,
    Andy

    Hans,

You'd love Canada. You could expect the same treatment here, or at least in our area. Canada is a wee, bit wide for me to show you the whole thing.
    Cheers,
    Andy
