'Scan for Hardware' line command? (WINXP SP2)

When I plug my XD card reader or my Palm into a USB port, I usually have to make my way to the Device Manager, go to the USB section, left-click and request "Scan for hardware changes", before the device is recognized. Is there a line command that will initiate this USB Scan for hardware changes? Or does someone have another suggestion for achieving the same result?

    TIA

    Hi Rob:
I'm not an expert in this area, as I've just gotten WinXP SP2, but take a look at Plug and Play & see if it helps.

I've never tried using it, but I'm pretty sure that DevCon will do the job.

That's just the ticket! Thank you. I should be able to figure out how to set it up to execute the rescan from an icon on my desktop.

Still strange that UPnP doesn't consistently work the way it should. The link from Phil pretty much confirms that these devices "should" be recognized when I plug them in. At first I thought the problem was with my Palm and I spent hours messing around with it. Then when I had the same problem with my xd-card reader, I knew I had to look elsewhere...

Thanks for the help; Devcon does the trick.
